Torrevieja Torrevieja

Costa Blanca Torrevieja

Description

The land of sun and salt.

Torrevieja is undoubtedly one of the great jewels in the crown of the Costa Blanca, which despite being considered one of the most touristic cities in the province of Alicante, has managed to blur the line between the tourist and holiday life of its visitors and the quiet life of those who live permanently. Thanks to its warm weather 365 days a year, it is possible to enjoy its beaches all year round, as well as outdoor activities and water sports.

We could say that the main areas of this city are:

  • The city centre is the heart of its commercial activity. Numerous shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars and cafés can be found here. The Plaza de la Constitución is the focal point, where cultural events and festivals are held throughout the year. The Paseo de la Libertad is a busy pedestrian avenue which also hosts a typical craft market with wooden stalls.
  • Marina Salinas port and The Yacht Club: The town has an important marina where yachts and boats dock but, in addition to its function as a port, Marina Salinas is an outstanding leisure area with restaurants, bars and a vibrant nightlife that offers a panoramic view of the sea to stroll around and enjoy the atmosphere.
  • The Paseo Juan Aparicio and the Dique de Levante: separated by the sculpture dedicated to the Man of the Sea, these two large pedestrian areas are perfect for observing a beautiful panorama caressed by the Mediterranean. The Dique de Levante specifically, separates the promenade Juan Aparicio from the Paseo de la Libertad, measures 2700 metres and has two levels; the upper one allows you to contemplate the city of Torrevieja itself on one side, the Manga del Mar Menor belonging to the Region of Murcia, in front on the horizon, and on the other side, the port. The lower part has a cycle lane, perfect for wheeled rides.

Its beaches, coves and natural landscapes:

Undoubtedly the biggest attraction of Torrevieja are its 9 beaches, 6 of which fly the blue flag with the "Q" for quality; there are urban ones, located near the city centre such as Playa del Cura and Playa de los Locos, but also natural and extensive ones such as Playa de La Mata, with more than 2 km of fine golden sand. And its 10 coves; if you prefer a quieter space or to be in more contact with nature, you can find these 10 small natural nooks hidden between large cliffs, ideal for snorkelling or spending an afternoon fishing.

The Lagoons of Torrevieja and La Mata are of special mention for their scenic and ecological interest. The Pink Lagoon is outstanding for its special colour. Apart from being a wetland refuge for beautiful migratory birds such as flamingos, it is one of the most important in Europe for its salt flats, as salt extraction has been the economic activity par excellence of the city of Torrevieja for centuries. There is the possibility of excursions to the heart of this salt mine during the weekends, with guided visits by tourist train, on foot or by bicycle, where you will discover the gears of the industrial area and also the secret of the craftsmanship of the typical salt boats set in these colourful waters.

Leisure and entertainment:
Torrevieja seeks to promote itself as a cultural capital and dynamizer of all the creative and cultural sectors of the region, they are committed to local production and that is why it offers, in its cultural program, a wide and varied leisure offer for residents and visitors throughout the year. Some of the places we recommend are:

  • Municipal Theatre and Auditorium: to enjoy plays, concerts, dance shows, etc. Here you can find the programme of events at the Theatre and Auditorium.
  • Sea and Salt Museum: offers a rich insight into the maritime and salt history of the city and exhibits objects related to salt extraction, fishing or navigation, as well as the fauna and flora of the area.
  • Floating Submarine Museum S-61 Dolphin: presents a unique experience for those interested in naval history and underwater technology.
  • Festivals and Gastro-cultural Events: the city of Torrevieja organises a series of festivities including carnival, patron saint festivals, dance and music festivals, and much more. The Association of Hoteliers and Caterers of Torrevieja and the surrounding area organises gastronomic events throughout the year, such as its famous Ruta de la Tapa, where you can taste delicious recipes and discover new restaurants as well as participate in raffles for voting for the best tapa in Torrevieja.
  • Markets and Shopping: every Friday there is a street market at the fairgrounds where you can find fresh food, local products, handicrafts, clothes, etc.
  • Cinema: Torrevieja has cinemas showing films in several languages.
  • Water Park: for the enjoyment of the little ones and the old ones.
